Helena Goldie Project

Solomon Islands girl near river

The Helena Goldie Project is a UnitingCare Health initiative, along with partner UnitingWorld.

Each year UnitingCare Health staff travel to the Munda province of the Solomon Islands to teach at the Helena Goldie College of Nursing and to deliver much needed equipment.

This support leads to more registered nurses thereby building the healthcare system to the benefit of all Solomon Islanders.

Eighty-five per cent of the Solomon Islands’ communities live in poverty on remote islands. For many the closest medical facility is an outpost, staffed by an Assistant in Nursing, which is more then a two hour canoe ride away.

UnitingCare Health fundraises to provide students with bursaries to help pay for their tuition, accommodation and meals at the Helena Goldie College of Nursing, which costs around $3,000 per student.

UnitingCare Health hospital’s, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, The Wesley Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital and St Stephen’s Hospital, are now in the fourth year of supporting the project.
