Dr Toni Hampe is a specialist in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Endoscopy and General Medicine. He has worked as a consultant for Gastroenterology/Hepatology and General Medicine at Hervey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals since 2015. Dr Hampe studied Medicine at the University of Heidelberg, one of the oldest and most reputable universities in Europe, where he received his MD in 2004.
Dr Hampe's postgraduate and advanced training in Gastroenterology and General Medicine took place at various internationally renowned hospitals, including Heidelberg University Hospital (Germany), St George Hospital (Sydney), Prince Charles Hospital (Brisbane) and Princess Alexandra Hospital (Brisbane). Over the years, he has published in peer-reviewed medical journals. His special interests include viral hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, functional gastrointestinal disorders, abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy quality improvement.
Dr Hampe provides high-quality colonoscopy services with a very high personal adenoma detection rate of 58% and is committed to maintaining his performance by regularly undergoing quality and safety audits. In this regards, he has joined the recertification programme of the Gastroenterology Society of Australia (GESA). Furthermore, he offers a wide repertoire of diagnostic and therapeutic services including EMR, oesophageal dilatation, capsule endoscopy, endoscopic botox injection for achalasia, PEG insertion and APC.
Being a fully trained general physician, he favours a holistic approach to the diagnosis and management of patients' conditions, especially if endoscopy has been non-contributory. Outside Gastroenterology, he is also very keen on consulting with patients with general medical complaints.
He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), and a member of GESA and the Australasian Society of HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM). He is a senior lecturer at the School of Medicine of the University of Queensland.
