St Stephen’s Hospital is thrilled to introduce its new veteran liaison officer, Susie Thompson.
For the past two and half years, Susie has been welcoming and assisting patients and visitors to St Stephen’s as part of our patient administration team.
Susie is a familiar face around the hospital and was inspired to take on the role of veteran liaison officer by her desire to be there to support patients and ensure their experience in hospital is a positive one.
“I always enjoy connecting with our patients and helping to make a difference in their lives,” Susie said.
“I saw this role as an opportunity to extend that and to help make a difference for our veterans who’ve served for our country,” she said.
Our veteran liaison officer is available to support veterans by assisting them in navigating the complex health system and connecting them with other support services when needed.
“When veteran patients come to us at St Stephen’s, I will generally meet with them in the first 24 hours of their stay to introduce myself and offer any support they may be needing at that time,” Susie said.
“My ultimate goal is to ensure our veterans have a great experience when they come to St Stephen’s and after they have been discharged home as well.
“It’s a fantastic role and already I’ve been able to start building connections with our veteran patients, especially those who visit us regularly for treatments and care.
“I’m really looking forward to having a positive impact on the healthcare experience of veterans, and also to working toward building stronger links with the RSL in our Fraser Coast region,” she said.
