• Mako robot-assisted orthopaedic surgery

  St Stephen’s orthopaedic surgeons have access to a Mako orthopaedic robot, which is designed to improve outcomes for patients requiring total or partial hip or knee replacement surgery.
  
  Mako robotic surgery allows specialists to perform complex surgical procedures with the intention of more predictable outcomes through advanced pre-operative planning and surgical precision.

  For patients, the robotic technology has a range of benefits, including less invasive procedures and reduced trauma to soft tissue, reduced pain, quicker rehabilitation and greater implant longevity.

  It enables the surgeon to perform comprehensive pre-operative planning through a CT scan of the patient’s joint. This includes anatomy assessment, joint balancing and customised positioning of prosthesis, all prior to the patient entering the operating theatre.
  
  Throughout the procedure, the Mako creates a 3D image of the patient’s joint and Mako AccuStop haptic technology enables the surgeon to cut precisely for each and every patient. While the surgeon still performs the operation, the Mako robot is another tool for surgeons to use to make an informed decision for their patients.

• Our facilities

  St Stephen's Hospital is set across three floors, with five operating theatres and private patient rooms. During your stay with us, you'll have access to a patient entertainment system in your room, which allows you to watch television, listen to the radio and order your meals at the touch of a button. Free Wi-Fi is also available for you to use your own devices during your admission. 

  Our state-of-the-art hospital is surrounded by grassy grounds and is a calm and nurturing environment, designed with space, light and healing in mind. On the ground floor, you'll find our cafe and outdoor patio for you to sit and walk in, or for your loved one to wait while you are having your procedure. On the ground floor, you'll also find our Chapel which is open to all for reflection and prayer. The chapel serves our community and is a quiet and sacred space.

• Rehabilitation

  Early mobility will help your recovery and aid you to get back to normal activities sooner. Our allied health team are highly experienced in surgical rehabilitation, and will work with you before and after your procedure to give you the best, and fastest, recovery possible.

  Our Inpatient Rehabilitation Ward and our Outpatient clinic will work with you during your stay and at our onsite Exercise Medicine Centre.
