Dr Paul Du Toit is a Rehabilitation Medicine Physician offering services in General Rehabilitation, Pain Management and Musculoskeletal Medicine.
General Rehabilitation: This includes orthopaedic, neurological, cardiac, cancer, and respiratory rehabilitation, as well as amputee rehabilitation, including prosthetics and orthotics, and rehabilitation of the deconditioned patient. Dr du Toit has an interest in Botulinum Toxin Therapy for the management of spasticity in neurological conditions including post stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and head injury. He uses an ultrasound-guided technique which is more accurate and less painful for his patients.
Pain Management: Dr du Toit firmly believes that opioids are detrimental to the management of patients with chronic pain. He uses an evidencebased approach which incorporates a graded exercise programme and strengthening of the core stabilisers. His aim is always to wean patients off the opioids and to provide patients with the skills and confidence to manage their pain while living a fulfilling life.
Musculoskeletal Medicine: Dr du Toit has a special interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine, having come from a background as a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and having completed the post graduate diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine from Otago University in New Zealand. His particular interests lie in the management of nonsurgical back and neck pain and the management of the dysfunctional sacro-iliac joint.
Dr Paul du Toit became a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine in 2018. He consults at the Exercise Medical Centre at St Stephen's Hospital in Hervey Bay. Referrals can be made via Medical Objects or faxed to 07 4124 7710.
