Doctor Details

Prior to coming to Australia, Dr Diaz worked as a surgeon in Thailand for 20-odd years. His first post was as a refugee camp surgeon with the U.N.H.C.R. at the Thai-Cambodian border. He later served in a country hospital in Phuket, Southern Thailand, for almost five years. Following rigorous training at Mahidol University in Bangkok, he obtained his qualifications in General Surgery in 1990 and gained membership with the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand (RCST). Subsequently, Dr Diaz served as surgeon and senior administrator at a well-known private hospital in Bangkok until his move to the Fraser Coast in late 2000, where he serves to the present day. He obtained Australian certification in gastro-intestinal endoscopy in 2002 and was granted membership with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2003 and remains an active member of various craft groups. He has maintained his consultant status (part-time) at the public hospital while serving in the private sector the past seven years.

Dr Diaz provides a comprehensive 'rural' general surgery service: biliary surgery, breast surgery, laparoscopic colo-rectal surgery, skin cancer surgery, thyroid surgery, upper and lower GI endoscopy, and also performs tonsillectomies. His special interests include laparoscopic colo-rectal surgery, hernia surgery, skin cancer surgery, single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), and endoscopy.
